Android Homescreen: Old Paper

I miss tweaking my phone. This is my current setup for my Galaxy S3. I made this last October and stuck to it. Mostly because it’s really tailored for me. And I also don’t have time to change it.

I’m actually itching to change it into something with a  scrapbook feel, but I’m just too busy right now.

This one is a little vintage-y and I just love the whole color and how easy it is on the eyes.

Just too bad, I accidentally deleted the base files for this, but this was basically made with Photoshop then I used the apps Nova Launcher, Desktop Visualizer, Minimalist Text.

Android Homescreens: Teal & Rust

I love the color deep dark orange, maybe we can call it rust. It reminds me of an old grungy guitar. I guess I was hanging out online  and one guitar color caught my eye on that particular shop. Deep dark orange almost bordering on brown. And from that I got inspired to create something ‘rust’ and orange-y for a tablet.

This was actually designed for a Nexus 7 Tablet. All made with UCCW, Nova Launcher, icon pack from Truely Clean Icons by FFRA on Deviantart and Missed It! App.

It’s a 3-page set up with one main homescreen, 2nd screen is for favorite apps and the 3rd screen for ‘office’ apps.

I shared this on mycolorscreen but as much as I’d like to share the files, I accidentally deleted it. My bad, but perhaps when I’ve got the time,I’ll try to recreate it.

If you’re in mycolorscreen, check out my screens (PurpleMochi), and please zoom if you like them.

Android Homescreens: Vintage Latte

To say that Android theming is addictive would be an understatement. I LOVE graphic designing, and I’m forever tinkering with Photoshop, Illustrator and Gimp. So its not really a surprise that I decided to strip my phone bare and weave magic with it. It never ceases to amaze me how you can customize you mobile.

With just a bit of creativity you can have something totally original. There is a bit of a learning curve especially when you decide to use some advanced customization apps but once you get the hang of it, really the ideas would just flow.

Here’s one of my recent work, inspired by latte and coffee shop menus. And yes, I made this while I was hanging around a coffee shop. I’m calling it Vintage Latte.

It consists of 2 homescreen pages. And made using these apps:

  • Nova Launcher (free) – settings (10×12 grid, dock hidden, icon labels hidden, no margins)
  • Eye in the Sky Weather (free) – love this weather widget. very cute icons.
  • Desktop Visualizer (free) – a great app for customizing images and icons. This is what I used to place coffee themed images.
  • Amazing Text Free Text Widget – i wanted to add those ‘script’ text as accent and this free app is nice. easy to use.
  • Ultimate Custom Widget (UCCW) (free) – if you’re crazy about customization, then get a headstart and  learn how to use this app. It’s totally worth it. This is what I used to make those ‘text banners’ and then added a hotspot to link it to my chosen app.
  • Power Toggles (free) – for those tiny icons on the homescreen controlling power controls.

Miscellaneous: Images and background are from, small icons below the latte image are from Placid Monochrome Theme pack.

Android Homescreens: Easy Monochrome

I found myself a new creative outlet.

You see, I was never a very ‘generic’ person. My stuff, I always need to put my personal stamp on. And that includes my tablet and mobile phone. So, ever since I discovered the joys of Android tweaking and customization, I’ve been learning and really on the roll.

And the great reward is that I get to have a totally ME phone, which is gorgeous and very functional as well. Functional because, I do take time to take into account what I need and what are the things I need fast access to. I also don’t like clutter, so my homescreens are usually easy, organized with just the very basic stuff out front, all the rest of the apps are categorized and hiding in the app drawers.

Lol. You won’t find a random app selling davidoff cigars for sale on my homescreen. The great thing though is that I’m still learning and discovering things. But I just wanna share some homescreens I made on this blog. For sure time will come, I’ll be sharing files for you but for now well have this.. Which I think is a nice improvement from my previously posted summer themed homescreen.

Here’s my homescreen last month. I’m calling it Easy Monochrome. I was feeling really zen like and wanted muted tones and look to my screen. I found this really pleasant. Just a single homescreen, with shortcuts to the apps I frequently use, then tiny dock buttons for some utlities.

Easy Monochrome is a single very minimal homescreen. I used Nova Launcher, UCCW with Elegante Skin for the day and time widget, and icons from Placid Monochrome Theme pack. Wallpaper is from BestWallpapersHD app.

You can check out MyColorscreen for some really awesome homescreen customization. My eye balls almost rolled out of my eye sockets, the first time I discovered the site coz of the pure awesomeness.  Hahaha! I kid you not! Anyway, you can find me there too, I’m using the moniker PurpleMochi.

Tweaked Galaxy Tab 2 Homescreen

I just got myself a Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 and within hours of getting it, I had been itching to root it. Yes, I’m just really nuts. The only thing that stopped me is that, the thing is still under warranty. BUT what’s really great is that with a little imagination and tweaking here and there you can achieve a totally different look for your tablet/phone.

I really don’t like being generic. Like my deal is just one of those millions, and I have always liked personalized stuff. And that’s what I set out to do, make my tablet look different from the rest. At least the homescreen. So I postponed an afternoon searching for sof sole from, and headed over to the playstore to see what apps I could play with to make my Tablet a whole lot prettier and more ME.

Here’s the BEFORE screenshot. The basic Samsung skin..

Samsung Galaxy Tab Default Homescreen

I personally don’t like a lot of icons on my screen. It drives me dizzy. After adding just two widget apps and a wallpaper change, here’s my new AFTER look:

Homescreen 1: default – clean looking. just the way I like it. Weather and time widget. No icons.

Homescreen 2: just widgets for my videos and music player, so I can play them instantly. And shortcut to my most frequently used things. All the rest of the apps are inside the app drawer.

Free Apps used: BestWallpapers HD, Ultimate Custom Widget UCCW (+ Series UCCW Skin), BeWeather & Widgets.

I used the Series UCCW Skin coz I’m a little bit lazy to make my own. hahaha! Alternatively, you can also use Minimalist Text icon maker to achieve the all text widget drama.
