Last year, I got myself a Xiaomi Redmi Note 3! And I loved it. Seriously LOVED it! I found it easy to use, fast and the camera was fabulous. But an unfortunate incident happened while I was on travel. I got robbed and one of the things I lost was my beloved Mi phone.
The moment I got home, I was on the lookout for a new phone and for once I wanted the same one. LOL! I’ve always been a gadget nerd and I’m usually never content and sticking to one brand. But for so many reasons I really liked how Xiaomi worked for me. Thankfully, when I was shopping Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 was just out so I went for it.
And I like this one even better than my old one! I love how it fits my hand. Let’s just say I’m a total Xiaomi fanatic now. Even my daughter have decided to switch to a Mi Max and my husband now wants to get his own Mi phone.
I geeked out and bought myself a new gadget. Figured I deserved it. LOL I know I’ve been a neglectful blogger lately but hey! mommy duties takes precedence. Plus I also have a gourmet cake business to run. But I still geek out so often on gadgets and all things techie.
Anyway, I’ve been looking for a second phone for some time now and I figured I wanna give Xiaomi a try. They look fabulous! For about a week I flashed MIUI on my other phone to get a feel for the interface and I kinda liked it. Not loved it but I find it easy to use and quite intuitive. The only thing that held me back from buying was the processor. The local shop here didn’t have the one with Snapdragon only the one with Helio MTK.
But looking at the pricepoint (less than $200! local price), I just threw caution to the wind and bought the 32 GB variant! Ha! I’m glad I did.
I have this phone now for over two weeks and I love it! Easy, fast and I love the camera. I might buy another one for my daughter’s bday. The only con I experience is it tends to get hot when charging and there are times YouTube freezes. All other apps and gazillions of games my kids play with are okay.
For those intending to buy the same, keep in mind this one does not have a slot for SD card. But its a really great buy for the price. You can check it out at this site Xiaomi Redmi Note 3. Also check here for more Xiaomi goodies.
My sister has been looking for a smartphone to buy for sometime already. BUT she is very exacting and quite specific. And she has been bugging me to recommend a good one for her and one at a price point she could live with.
Let’s just say she is extremely budget conscious and wants a device that can do what she wants at a reasonable price point. Yeah, she’s the sort to scour different sites to see if the prices are different for every thing she wants to buy.
I asked her what she wants to do with the phone, what functions she wants. She wants to use it for social media, read emails, maybe some news updates, so she prefers a big screen phone preferably above 5″. It also needs to have a passable camera and can play a few games. And most of all, must not cost more than $200.
So off we went to do our research and stumbled across Alcatel Pop C9. And was quite impressed. We headed over to the nearest phone shop to play with it and see if it suits her. And she loved it. The price point is also LOVE. We got it for $199 with 1 yr warranty (lower if you opt for 3 or 6 mo warranty) and a host of freebies.
I liked that it doesn’t look cheap, its actually well made and resembles the Galaxy Note 1, the screen is crisp, bright and big at 5.5″. It’s also passably fast with 1 GB RAM, Quad-core 1.3 GHz, runs on Android Jelly Bean, and has an 8MP camera which takes reasonably good photos.
Let’s just say my sister is very very happy with her purchase. And me too. I would recommend it, if you’re looking for a budget smartphone that packs a punch, go for an Alcatel Pop C9.
I’m thinking of buying her a smartphone. And mind you, for a grandma she is techno savvy. She’s a gamer, on PC or in a console she can find her way. I think she is a much better gamer than me, and that’s one reason she gets along so well with my daughter. I suspect they talk all games every day.
Anyway, I’m thinking of getting her a smartphone so she can play games and also connect. It has to be big screened but nothing too pricey. She keeps a tight fist on her budget and would freak out if I spend a lot on something. Someone suggested a Huawei P1 Phone.

We looked it up in the nearest shop here, and it looks nice. Although I find the colors a bit washed but it looked great. Anyone with experience using this? Any reviews?
For iPhone lovers, the new iPhone5 has been launched and is now available for pre-order. Check out this ‘how to buy iphone5‘ post to know your buying options.
On Sept. 12th, Apple launched the latest incarnation of iPhone called iPhone5. So what’s are the upgrades? Well, its thinner, lighter and made of glass and aluminum. It also has a slightly bigger screen, four-inch screen with an 1136 x 640 resolution to be exact, an extra row of icons, and LTE capabilities. You can check this out for a run-down of other iPhone5 specs.
And of course, being a gadget lover, I have my thoughts on this. (1) Ho hummm. (2) Yawn (3) It’s pretty, and that’s about it. Lol. I have the feeling Apple is just sleeping or being complacent now with their achievements and to be honest this is starting to bore. And its pretty ironic that for a touted industry leader, the iPhone5 is now the one playing catch up with its competitors. Other phones have its newly introduced capabilities for over a year now.
But anyway, its still a solid, good phone and they do have a big following. I was just hoping for more. Now, if they come up with something that answers my email feature, that’ll turn my eye. Hahaha! Just kidding. But yeah, suffice it to say I ain’t about to shell out hard earned money for this release, perhaps next time they come up with something ground breaking?
While I don’t really fancy tablets in general, mainly coz I think they are more of a ‘distraction’ and for entertainment only gadget and I prefer doing stuff still on my laptop, BUT the new Kindle Paperwhite is making me drool. The new Kindle collection has been recently launched with Kindle Fire HD 8.9″ 4G LTE Wireless, Kindle Fire HD, Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Paperwhite 3G
Why? I’m a serious book lover. I read lots and I’ve been wanting to buy an e-reader. And the Kindle Paperwite is just screaming ‘BUY NOW!’ to me, and why not when it has higher resolution, higher contrast touchscreen with built-in light and 8-week battery life? This is really for pure reading experience without the distraction of apps, games and whatnots.
On the other hand, if you want both an e-reader and a tablet full of apps and games then check out theKindle Fire HD 8.9 :

A few posts ago, I featured some choice picks of pretty and Girly Samsung Galaxy SIII Cases and I was a bit surprised that it was getting a whole lot of traffic. Well, considering how hit this phone is, I shouldn’t have been surprised. So now I decided to feature another set of skins and case picks for another brand – this time the HTC One X Series.
The main reason why I’m covering Android phone accessories is that, while iPhone accessories are plentiful, gorgeous and gets plenty of coverage, high-end Android phone accessories aren’t that much discussed. Which is a pity, coz they are also gorgeous, not to mention imho, various choices makes them interesting.
I’m pretty much set on getting myself a Galaxy Note but the new Galaxy S3 is swaying me a bit in its favor. Lol. Anyway, I looked into the available accessories for this newly released phone and found some pretty feminine cases for the S3.
For S3 toting ladies out there, these might be the case you’re looking for:
I’m a total ignoramus when it comes to musical instruments so I’m not really the best person to ask about guitars and such. But I do love music, at least just listening to it.
And I’m saying this is one gorgeous music player! Creative ZEN Style M300 music, photo and video player with Bluetooth wireless audio playback. This pretty little player is packed with features including a microSD card slot and 1.45″ TFT screen with Touch Buttons, Key Features of the Creative ZEN Style M300, Wireless Connectivity with Bluetooth 2.1.
I’m currently Android obsessed and probably will be for a long time. Let’s just say I’m a lover of open source tech whatnots and I like having flexibility when it comes to my devices. If not, I find them extremely boring, so I’m so fascinated by Android because of the myriad possibilities and custom things you can do with it. Tweakers paradise so to speak.
Right now I’ve been playing with loads of things you can do with this platform for both phone and tablets and if someday they have this platform for car gps, I would probably get it and play with it too. I’m that obsessed.
Anyhow, yesterday we’ve been exploring some photo editing apps on Google Play and since I was ‘playing’ with my almost teenage daughter, of course she had to search for apps that can make her photos look cute or kawaii! While I could never get into this trend (for obvious reason that I’m OLD and boring hahaha), I can fully understand the kawaii appeal specially to the younger set.
Android and Google Play has a whole bunch of mostly free apps you can use to cute-tify or make your photos extra kawaii. Here’s some we saw:
DecoPic – Free. Photo application created for ladies who like all things “Kawaii”.
DecoPetit – Free. Decoration “Cute&Cool” to Purikura or Photo.
PiCute – Free. An application to take cute pic’s and decorate them.
