iPhone5 Launched

For iPhone lovers, the new iPhone5 has been launched and is now available for pre-order. Check out this ‘how to buy iphone5‘ post to know your buying options.

iPhone5

On Sept. 12th, Apple launched the latest incarnation of iPhone called iPhone5. So what’s are the upgrades? Well, its thinner, lighter and made of glass and aluminum. It also has a slightly bigger screen,  four-inch screen with an 1136 x 640 resolution to be exact, an extra row of icons, and LTE capabilities.  You can check this out for a run-down of other iPhone5 specs.

And of course, being a gadget lover, I have my thoughts on this. (1) Ho hummm. (2) Yawn (3) It’s pretty, and that’s about it. Lol. I have the feeling Apple is just sleeping or being complacent now with their achievements and to be honest this is starting to bore. And its pretty ironic that for a touted industry leader, the iPhone5 is now the one playing catch up with its competitors. Other phones have its newly introduced capabilities for over a year now.

But anyway, its still a solid, good phone and they do have a big following.  I was just hoping for more. Now, if they come up with firewire for musicians feature, that’ll turn my eye. Hahaha! Just kidding. But yeah, suffice it to say I ain’t about to shell out hard earned money for this release, perhaps next time they come up with something ground breaking?

New Kindle Fire HD and Kindle Paperwhite

While I don’t really fancy tablets in general, mainly coz I think they are more of a ‘distraction’ and for entertainment only gadget and I prefer doing stuff still on my laptop, BUT the new Kindle Paperwhite is making me drool. The new Kindle collection has been recently launched with Kindle Fire HD 8.9″ 4G LTE Wireless, Kindle Fire HD, Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Paperwhite 3G.

Kindle Paperwhite 3G, 6" High Resolution Display with Built-in Light, Free 3G + Wi-Fi - Includes Special Offers

Why? I’m a serious book lover. I read lots and I’ve been wanting to buy an e-reader. And the Kindle Paperwhite is just screaming ‘BUY NOW!’ to me, and why not when it has higher resolution, higher contrast touchscreen with built-in light and 8-week battery life? This is really for pure reading experience without the distraction of apps, games and whatnots. As they say its unadulterated reading experience sans the frills and decorative moss.

On the other hand, if you want both an e-reader and a tablet full of apps and games then check out the Kindle Fire HD 8.9 4G LTE Wireless (8.9″ HD Display, Dolby Audio, Dual-Band Dual-Antenna Wi-Fi, 4G LTE, 32GB or 64GB):

Kindle Fire HD 8.9" 4G LTE Wireless, Dolby Audio, Dual-Band Wi-Fi, 32 GB

Kindle Fire HD (7″ HD Display, Dolby Audio, Dual-Band Dual-Antenna Wi-Fi, 16GB or 32GB):

Hot Picks: 10 HTC One X Series Skins and Cases

A few posts ago, I featured some choice picks of pretty and Girly Samsung Galaxy SIII Cases and I was a bit surprised that it was getting a whole lot of traffic. Well, considering how hit this phone is, I shouldn’t have been surprised. So now I decided to feature another set of skins and case picks for another brand – this time the HTC One X Series.

The main reason why I’m covering Android phone accessories  is that, while iPhone accessories are plentiful, gorgeous and gets plenty of coverage, high-end Android phone accessories aren’t that much discussed. Which is a pity, coz they are also gorgeous, not to mention imho, various choices makes them interesting.

Cute-tify Your Photos with these Android Apps

I’m currently Android obsessed and probably will be for a long time. Let’s just say I’m a lover of open source tech whatnots and I like having flexibility when it comes to my devices. If not, I find them extremely boring, so I’m so fascinated by Android because of the myriad possibilities and custom things you can do with it. Tweakers paradise so to speak.

Right now I’ve been playing with loads of things you can do with this platform for both phone and tablets and if someday they have this platform for car gps, I would probably get it and play with it too. I’m that obsessed.

Anyhow, yesterday we’ve been exploring some photo editing apps on Google Play and since I was ‘playing’ with my almost teenage daughter, of course she had to search for apps that can make her photos look cute or kawaii! While I could never get into this trend (for obvious reason that I’m OLD and boring hahaha), I can fully understand the kawaii appeal specially to the younger set.

Android and Google Play has a whole bunch of mostly free apps you can use to cute-tify or make your photos  extra kawaii. Here’s some we saw:

DecoPic Android App

DecoPic – Free. Photo application created for ladies who like all things “Kawaii”.

DecoPetit Android App

DecoPetit – Free. Decoration “Cute&Cool” to Purikura or Photo.

PiCute Android App

PiCute – Free. An application to take cute pic’s and decorate them.

ABC Camera Android App

ABC Camera – Free. Decorate with cute text.

There’s also a whole lot of kawaii apps with only Japanese menus/character but I figured they are cool too to add a bit of ‘kawaii authenticity’ lol to your pics.

Shameji Android App

Shameji – Free.

Yuromoji Camera Android App

Yuromoji Camera – Free. Add kawaii text fonts.

I Want a Samsung Galaxy Note.

Seriously. I have never drooled much over a mobile something in my life. Hahaha.. I hesitate to call this just a smartphone. I also cannot just label it just as a tablet. So its a hybrid of some sort. What I like about it is that it brings both worlds, the advantages of using a smartphone and a tablet. And perhaps the S-pen may be regarded as some as a throwback but I do love it. In fact, its one of the selling features of this phone/tablet to me.

Samsung Galaxy Note

Oh why did I fell headlong in love with this? I’m pretty content with my phone, I rarely use it anyway. Lol. And I do a lot of stuff online so I much prefer the power of a laptop to smartphones or tablets. So I never really got into digging and running for a new phone. I simply didn’t need or want it.

Or I was just deluding myself. So now I concluded there simply just weren’t a product in the market that I wanted enough. Until I saw the Samsung Galaxy Note in one trade exhibit. I was blown over. I love the display and while the size might be a turn off for some, well its a plus for me. I could never like browsing the web on teeny weeny handsets. So I lurve this one. It’s thin, and looks sexy.

And the biggest draw: I could scribble, draw and make notes on it. I’m a huge drawing fan. I sketch and make notes a lot. So this is a match made in heaven. I also like the S-Scheduler. It’s intuitive and just the sort I need.

It also doesn’t help my obsession that tech reviewers are raving about it. Read Engadget Review.

So now I have something to work on. It’s expensive and I’m still dilly dallying about buying it although I really want it. Hmm, I’m a a sensible shopper and I have priorities. But whoa! If I want to gift myself, this is IT!

Sony’s Honeycomb Tablets S1 and S2

I find iPads really beautiful and sleek. So why am I not hankering to have one? I dunno. I guess I’m not one of those persons who pant and salivate on hearing the word Apple or Mac. Hahaha! If I ever buy a tablet I want something running on Android. So, what’s in the market? What are my choices?

Sony Tablets

Hmm, Sony is launching two new tablets called S1 and S2 this fall. Yay!  It’s running on Android Honeycomb 3.0, are 3G and 4G compatible and is equipped with awesome gaming integration courtesy of  PlayStation Suite. The reader in me won’t be left unsatisfied coz it can download books easily from the Reader store.

The one on the left is the S1 and to the right is S2.  S1 will come with  9.4-inch screen and a unique “off-center of gravity” form for easier hold.  While S2 comes with two 5.5-inch screens which I think would take a bit of getting used to when browsing, but otherwise would be really great to lug around since it can be folded neatly.

Check out the demo video below…
